Congratulations James Brewer

After over 30 years James Brewer is stepping into retirement! What’s more is James is 85 years old. James started his career in silver restoration at 10 South Wabash in Chicago for Swartz. He continued his career with Gilbertson’s of Chicago – Chicago’s leading silversmith. Al Bar Wilmette Platers, Inc. acquired Gilbertson’s in the early 1990’s – James had already moved to Al Bar in Wilmette to continue his legacy in 1987. James lost his wife in 1987 and has a daughter Carrol and a grandson James.

James loved his work and was a major part of the fabric and family here in Wilmette. He lives in Chicago and will hopefully stop by often to help encourage some of the younger craftsman here. He has most likely touched more silverware, tea sets, and fine restored pieces of Chicago than anyone else currently alive. Having him step down is bitter sweet and we wish him the best. James thank you so much for your perseverance and attention to detail.
