wire scupture light fixture

Posted on 30th September, by administrator in Recent Projects. No Comments

This piece of wire sculpture was not worked on by our staff but I could hardly resist taking a photo for you to see. Hopefully we will fabricate something fun like this using similar methods (do I here polished nickel)?

tudor entry from the 30′s

Posted on 27th September, by administrator in Recent Projects. No Comments

This entry set was most likely made locally by a blacksmith in the 1930′s in Michigan.  Much of the hardware on this home was fabricated for the original owner as ‘one of a kind’ bespoke hardware.

tudor strap hinges

Posted on 27th September, by administrator in Recent Projects. No Comments

These hinge straps were manufactured just for this door in sections/pieces.  The lock spring needs a little help but for over 80 years the hardware is in near perfect condition.

the abandoned packard plant

Posted on 25th September, by administrator in Recent Projects. No Comments

The historic Packard Assembly Plant is over 3 million square feet and covers blocks of motor city usa.  It is worth the trip to climb in and explore this relic of days gone by.  The double hung windows are mostly gone and destroyed but much of the original hardware was still able to be seen.  The large overhead transom window operator that is over 300 feet long still works perfectly (after being neglected since the 1960′s).

custom polished nickel levers

Posted on 21st September, by administrator in Recent Projects. No Comments

These levers were installed by our team of craftsman on doors leading into a private tasting room from the bar.  The mixture of glass, stainless steel and polished nickel provides an extremely clean contemporary look.

lead gutter brackets

Posted on 19th September, by administrator in Recent Projects. No Comments

This gutter bracket was installed in the 1930′s on Edsel Ford’s home in Michigan.  It is always a treat to scout out really cool details when touring historic homes.  This home is extremely well preserved (we went to see ice box hardware – latches and hinges that are all original and in perfect condition).

glass door levers | polished nickel

Posted on 16th September, by administrator in Recent Projects. No Comments

These levers were installed on a cellar door (very similar in nature to a glass shower door).  All components were installed by our crew in a home right here in Lake Forest, Illinois.

time to set sail

Posted on 13th September, by administrator in Recent Projects. No Comments

We recently returned from a site visit on a project that is currently floating across the Atlantic Ocean.  This yacht maker selected Wilmette for custom hardware fabrication and finishing.  Quality and tolerances on a project like this can be both a challenge and a tremendous reward.

the windy city

We are working on an apartment in the city of Chicago with a stunner of a view.  The unit is an entire floor and will be adorned with our Gropius hardware suite (including new concealed egress).  Check back for install photos in a month or two!
